Nearly five years ago I started a niche community for the women and men who work as cabin crewmembers on private jets. Unlike their commercial counterparts, the corporate flight
attendant community is largely unregulated, with many larger private jets taking to the skies without a third crewmember onboard. With this in mind, I decided to start a community to
benefit corporate flight attendants and thus the
Corporate Flight Attendant Community was born.
Background Information
Although I am not nor have I ever been a corporate flight attendant, I have collaborated with members of the business
aviation community to develop manuals and newsletters on their behalf.
In August 2002, I was searching for fresh information for an upcoming newsletter and was disappointed by what I found
online which was virtually nothing. At the time, the internet was dominated by
a handful of vendors plus one horrible message board that did little to shine a positive light on corporate flight attendants. So, on August 15, 2002, I created an MSN
community and called it the Corporate Flight Attendant Community and immediately began pitching the site on the competing message board.
Little did I know but the response would be amazing. Yes, some of the negative chatter did move over to CFAC especially when the other board suddenly closed up shop a few weeks
later. Undeterred, I continued promoting CFAC by focusing on the positive aspects of business flight attendants. In January 2003, realizing that MSN was too limiting (and ultimately I
had no control over the community), I went ahead and purchased a domain name and set up shop with web host provider Powweb. The message boards I kept separate and moved
over to EZBoard with a link to the regular web pages. Finally, in February 2003 the new site was launched.
Growth and Then Some

I've witnessed the site grow from a community representing just a handful of people to one that dominates this particular niche. Today, more than 350 registered members belong to
the forum with countless numbers lurking or visiting the blog, the web pages, or coming across much of the unique resource information included on the site. In April 2007, more than
9000 visitors (see chart) came to the site with several hundred more visiting a catering site that has since been folded into the forums. So, achieving 8500 to 10,000 visits per month is within
reach; typically 60 to 70,000 page views are realized each month.
Site Promotion, Advertising
I haven't paid for advertising in months as my own network of sites and word of mouth continues to bring in the traffic. CFAC typically takes the first two positions in Google's SERPs for
the following keywords and phrases: corporate flight attendant, corporate flight attendants, private jet flight attendant, and business flight attendant. The community also gets plenty of
traffic for "flight attendant" and it is for that reason many people seeking to make the transition from commercial to private flying find the site.
On occasion, I will promote the
Corporate Flight Attendants For Hire page, but I haven't had to do that for some time
as it routinely rates as one of the most visited pages on the site. I take great care in optimizing and promoting the site -- just this past month Google awarded the community its first
PR5 PageRank for the home page, elevating both the blog and message boards to PR4. Many of the inner pages are currently PR3; I expect additional increases over time for some of
these pages as well.
Sources of Income
Income for the community generally comes from three sources:
- Resume Advertising -- 45%
- Google AdSense -- 33%
- Banner and Text Link -- 22%
Total annual income runs between $6-7000 annually; this year's average is
approximately $6300.
AdSense income (top chart is YTD 2007; bottom chart is 2006) has stabilized after dropping off from its peak in 2004 /
early 2005. At that
time, the bulk of income was AdSense revenue, but the
"private jet" keyword phrase eventually bottomed out. Still, I am able to
attract a nice selection of AdSense ads with the click through rate being just
under 1%. Clearly, there is room for additional advertising options, but I
haven't had the time to concentrate on those. Banner advertising has plenty of
room for growth, in my opinion.
Expenses Incurred or Otherwise
The site is hosted by Powweb at a price of $7.77/month. The domain name, www.corporateflyer.net will expire on January 25, 2008; the package with Powweb on March 25, 2008. You can assume the package with Powweb or transfer the files to
another web host. Upkeep takes up as much time as you want it to take. I
update resumes and add new ones (for a fee) plus I make changes to information
contained on the web pages as needed. The bulk of the site is user generated
content -- the current message boards are two years old with nearly 10,000
messages included.
What The Buyer Gets
In addition to the www.corporateflyer.net URL, all of the content on the site is included in the sale. Some content is third party information belonging to the
respective author(s) while other author
information has been included in exchange for free advertising on CFAC.
Additional details will be shared with the prospective buyer covering those arrangements.
Many of the pages on the site has been written by me. In those cases the content becomes yours; in some cases that information was previously shared with article directories (to
create backlinks), but the information now found on the site is the most recent.
Some of the pictures are owned by me, but will be included with the sale. Other photos are licensed from SXC with some of the logos owned by private companies.
You will also get two domains with the sale: www.corporateflightattendantcommunity.com and www.corporatejetcatering.com; the first URL points to the home page of the site while the second URL points to the catering page. Both URLs are registered with Frontia; I'll push them over to your account for no additional charge.
Bids I Will Entertain
I have a price for the web site that I would like, but I will entertain all bids starting at $2500. This is not an auction, so there isn't a specific ending date nor will the highest bidder automatically be selected. I would like to finalize the deal during June 2007, but I can close earlier if needed.
Tender Your Bid
Please do not make an inquiry about the sale if you have no interest in extending an offer. Most of the questions have already been answered so please reread this message to learn more.
Additional information will be supplied after your bid has been received. Only serious inquiries please and those should be sent to Matt Keegan at rmkeegan @ gmail.com only.
Please note, that
the
auction has ended and this site has been sold.
